First time here, won’t be the last….
After tragicomic adventure getting through snowstorm in Chicago to missed connection in Mexico city to full on rainstorm in Zihuatanejo to cab with no wipers or defrost to arriving in Troncones where the power was out for the entire town, we were welcomed warmly by our wonderful hostess, Christine, who sent us off to bed with a handful of cold beers and a candle and a promise of better things tomorrow. The promise was fulfilled in spades and then some. What a lovely place we had lucked into. Where to begin?
Let’s start with Christine, the calm, patient proprietress. Her bright eyed presence was a pure pleasure to greet the day with. As long as you are able to independently navigate the daily routine you are on your own. However, if you were in need of any advice or assistance she was right there to lend a hand. For us that is a perfect balance to strike when you are hosting a small hotel.
There was an honor fridge, 15 pesos for a cold beer! Top that I say. If you were ambitious a full kitchen was available for your cooking pleasure. The room we stayed in directly overlooked the ocean, with wide windows, a balcony and hammock right in front. Loved hearing the surf crashing both day and night. The grounds were landscaped beautifully, with bright colorful flowers and lots of palm trees and greenery. Also, nice little pool to cool off in during the heat of the day.
Situated smack dab on the beach, you couldn’t ask for a better location. A brisk tradewind swept in off the water every afternoon to keep things comfortable.
Los Suenos is located pretty much ideally in relation to the village itself. Almost all of the good local restaurants were within a few minutes walk in any direction, as well as some small tiendas offering simple goods and even booze and a pharmacia just up the road.
This is not the place to plan a vacation if you’re looking for wild nightlife and excitement. If you just want to relax, walk on the beach, read a book or two, and have a few beers and fresh food you’ve found your happy place.
We most of all want to offer our sincere thanks to Christine. Her happy go lucky attitude and sly sense of humor were a huge part of why we enjoyed our stay so much. Watching the sunset on the patio with her and her faithful dog Duke, along with a steady compliment of her friends while sipping wine and drinking cold beers was worth the trip itself. Lots of laughs and excellent conversations took place while passing cocktail hour right there on the beach.
A special shoutout goes to the family pets, especially Eddie, the craziest cat you ever met and Duke the wonderdog. Sweet, sneaky Duke. Charm the pants off of you and swipe your banana all in one swift motion. We can’t recommend Los Suenos highly enough. Already planning next year’s trip. Que Bueno!!!!
Just what we needed – and we will be back
Los Suenos is great because of many of the things that it has: a great beach location; clean, comfortable rooms; easy and close access to the village; an honour bar; and a helpful and accommodating host (Christina).
It’s also great because of the many things is doesn’t have: no TV; no loud obnoxious drunks (even on Seahawks game days); no one pushing trips or products on you; and no guests who need those things.
In other words, it is PERFECT for people who want to get away to Troncones and enjoy the setting, the scenery and the village without the unnecessary background noise of commercial tourism. It is comfort without the bells and whistles, because, let’s face it, bells and whistles are loud and that’s not why you’re going to Troncones.
We will be back to Troncones and when we are, we will stay here again. Everything about it was perfect for us.
One of the most relaxing adventures we have ever had!
Took a cab from airport $80 US. Did not know what to expect. We new this was not going to be like staying at the Ritz! When the driver dropped us off we were at the street side of hotel so you never know. You walk through the gates and Wow this is a amazing little home away from home. Right on the beach. You have a pool, bar, plenty of hammocks and special places to just sit back and read a book. Since we were there in October things are pretty quite in town. A few surfers show up everyday other than that we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Of course food is always very important to us, we like to try local favorites if we have a chance, with the help of Chris the owner of the hotel, we got to try a different restaurant every night. Wow! So good everyone of them. Nothing fancy just really good food. That is one thing I should mention, this is a place to just go and hang out, you do not need to get dressed up or even dry your hair just enjoy the people, food and the beach. Many thanks to the very special owners of Los Suenos Chris & Warren (Duke & Kitties) you all really made the trip unforgettable.
I’ve stayed at Los Suenos for the last two years now. It is, without a doubt, one of my favorite places ever. From the moment I met Christine and Duke (the world’s best dog), I knew I was staying some place special. Her hospitality is unrivaled. The rooms are great and the location is so beautiful. I highly recommend this wonderful hotel and have repeatedly to those who’ll listen and look at all my pictures:)
